In with the Old, Out with the New

One goes out, another comes in.

I had the painting below framed for a buyer and incidentally had the ink piece below returned to me on the same day, which was a pleasant suprise. The ink drawing was part of my solo debut in 2008 and it's great having such a nicely framed piece back in the house. We hardly have any ink work on the walls, because oil paintings can by hung as-is, whereas drawings need to be mounted or framed, which itsn't cheap! It's cool being able to share it. All the other ink works from that exhibition can be seen at the Robertson Small Hotel in, well, Robertson. Nice little place.
Thanks to Framed Master Gilders and Framers in Woodstock. They did the framing on both pieces and as usual, they did an awesome job!

All is not Lost

I'm very pleased to announce I'll be contributing to the awesome site Lostateminor as a guest writer! It's been a busy, bizarre and surprising week with all kinds of jobs cropping up, which I'll share with you as they come to fruition, in the meantime hopefully I can bring something unique to this excellent group of artists and writers.
Here's my first post. Some robot porn...

And now I'm off to pick up a painting from the framers!

Dawn Patrol

Quick session down on the water yesterday.

Up a Notch

Here's a brand spanking new digital piece I pushed a little further than I normally allow myself. Should do this more often...

Dry Dock

I took advantage of the ridiculously good weather this week by doing some on-site painting(my favourite kind). This was the first piece I did of the vessel LIDA, currently in dry dock at the waterfront.

Field Work

Had a good on-site paint today. It's always a challenge, because (as you can see below) the light does not sit still, it's in constant flux, but that's where thinking on your feet makes the image interesting. And frankly, I hate working from any kind of reference, because that kills the energy of the piece.

End of sermon.

Little Devil

Here's something I discovered last week when visiting my Oupa in Kimberley. That's my first dog, too, the neurotic Maya(she wasn't fond of explosives, as I recall)
In the mirror on the right, I have to assume, is little Damien from The Omen.
